LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction (or liposculpture) removes localized deposits of adipose tissue. These deposits may be located on the hips, thighs, buttocks, knees and abdomen, as well as the ankles, arms and under the chin. Liposuction is not generally considered a treatment for overweight or obesity, but rather for stubborn deposits of fat that persist despite diet and exercise. Liposuction is not recommended for the elimination of orange peel skin resulting from cellulite. Liposuction can be performed in a variety of ways (traditional, reciprocating, laser, ultrasound, etc.) but will always involve small incisions adjacent to the deposits to be removed, into which cannulas or probes are introduced. Depending on the scale of the adipose tissue and number of deposits to be removed, the procedure will either take place under local anaesthesia (potentially with sedation) or general anaesthesia.
